Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is one of the most popular beach resort areas on the US Atlantic coast. Located near the mid-point between New York City and the southern tip of Florida, it attracts annual visitors from every state east of the Mississippi River. The Greater Myrtle Beach region (also known as “The Grand Strand”) extends more than 40 miles from Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

The city of Myrtle Beach is very much an “old school” resort town, with oceanfront hotels, amusement parks, condos and shops, plus a 1.2 mile boardwalk. It’s also a major golf destination, with 100 golf courses in the region.

Myrtle Beach Vacation Rentals

Vacation rental home options in Myrtle Beach are split between condominium units and single-family homes. Most of the condos are in tall towers located steps from the beach. Many offer great views of the Atlantic Ocean and range from one to five bedrooms in size.

More spacious accommodations are available in individual homes spread throughout the town. Most of these homes are a little further from the ocean, but often within walking distance. Rental homes also vary greatly in size, with some of them offering 7 or more bedrooms.

Myrtle Beach is on the Atlantic Ocean near the border between South Carolina and North Carolina. The primary resort areas are on an island separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal Waterway. It’s 65 miles south of Wilmington, North Carolina, 85 miles north of Charleston and 150 miles southeast of Charlotte. The greater “Myrtle Beach” or “Grand Strand” region includes North Myrtle Beach, Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach and Surfside Beach.

US Route 17 runs through the region as it makes its way from Virginia to Florida. Near the city of Myrtle Beach it splits into “US 17 Bypass” (closer to the Waterway) and “US 17 Business” (on the oceanfront). I-95 passes approximately 60 miles west of town.

Airline service to the Grand Strand is available at Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR), located on the island, minutes from the heart of Myrtle Beach.
